Services

English with Jack is for anyone who wants to change the way they feel when communicating in English. As you improve your skills, you will go from:

  • doubtful to comfortable
  • comfortable to self-confident
  • self-confident to spontaneous

COMMUNICATION IS THE KEY

Using a learner-centered approach, I prepare your training sessions based on your current skill level, considering the expectations and objectives that you set for your own linguistic growth.  We both play an active role in reaching your goals through:

  • conversing / narrating
  • describing / presenting
  • explaining / listening
  • interviewing / sharing
  • questioning / answering

With almost four decades of teaching in Finland, I know how important it is to ensure our sessions are an enjoyable, lively and informative learning experience.

One to one Training

When you choose to work with me individually, my goal is to spark your imagination and get you speaking and expressing yourself clearly and confidently. Some of the ways I do this include:

Work & career

Tell me about your career and job profile, we’ll practice making and presenting audience-friendly slides.

Meeting people

Greetings, including different forms of “Hello” and when to use them; how to keep a conversation interesting; how to end a conversation politely.

The news

Share your thoughts on the latest headlines, local and world news, photographs, advertisements, TV programs, and comic strips.

How game are you?

When the weather is nice, we play word, card and board games together to activate familiar vocabulary and learn new terms. It helps with learning social skills as well.

Enjoying books

Let’s talk about our favorite books, what we’re reading now, book covers, characters, and titles. We also do some storytelling.

Let’s walk & talk

When the weather is nice, we can explore your neighborhood, city center, nearby suburbs, museums, parks and forests – take your camera, too!

SMALL GROUPS

From my own experience, I know how much easier it is for me to communicate in Finnish when speaking with one person than it is when participating in a small group of Finnish speakers.

How we build confidence:

^

Pair work and presenting results to the group

^

Groups of threes discussing and presenting to the group

^

Timely and accurate feedback

^

Before long, everyone is actively participating in a lively group discussion!

How often:

Small group training can be arranged weekly, biweekly and monthly, for a minimum of 90 minutes per session.

Social Media Language Learning

If you’re not around the capital city area, you can still take part in my English language training. With the freedom offered by technology, I can train you in one to one English skills, regardless of where you are physically located.
Whether you would like to develop your spoken fluency, listening comprehension, pronunciation, speaking, email writing or text messaging, SMLL sessions are always customized to meet your needs.

I currently have remote clients in Vaasa and Lappeenranta. Why not add your location, too?
